Dream Weaver Children’s Museum in early development

DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new children’s museum is in development in Delta County, and organizers are seeking community involvement.

The Dream Weaver Children’s Museum is being created in honor of Tara and Jerry Weaver, who died in a car crash in January. Tara was the director of Early Childhood and the Great Start Collaborative (GSC) at the Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District.

According to GSC Growing Families Home Visiting reflective supervisor Amber Hartman, Tara was a “fierce advocate” for kids, who always dreamed of starting a children’s museum in her rural community.

“In her honor, the community has really rallied around the idea of starting a children’s museum,” Hartman said. “There are a lot of families, but not a lot of things for families to do, particularly during our long winters. Having a children’s museum is a great place for people to come, get together, and to grow and learn.”

Organizers are calling on artists of all ages to participate in a contest to design a logo for the Dream Weaver Children’s Museum. There are no set guidelines for what the logo must include, so creativity is encouraged.

“The image is going to be displayed on the building, but then we’re going to have other logos that are also going to be used on merchandise or children’s areas,” said Tiffany Olsick, GSC Growing Families Home Visiting supervisor. “We want to involve the community as much as possible in these decisions.”

The logo contest ends on June 30. For details, scan the QR code in the image at the top of this article. Artwork can be emailed to dreamweavercm@gmail.com or mailed to Dream Weaver CM 2525 3rd Avenue South in Escanaba.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the development of the museum. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the Dream Weaver Children’s Museum, email dreamweavercm@gmail.com.

The museum’s location and budget have not yet been announced. Organizers have submitted a grant proposal to fund the museum, and they will learn the results of that application in August.
