Escanaba Public Library proves there is “more to the story” for National Library Week

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – “There’s More to the Story” is the theme for this year’s National Library Week (April 23 – 29). The Escanaba Public Library is proving that by highlighting services many may not know are available.

In addition to its wide selection of books, the Escanaba Public Library offers recreational items, such as a telescope for stargazing. Library card holders can also check out fishing poles and tackle boxes, which are provided by the Bay De Noc Great Lakes Sports Fishermen.

Director Carolyn Stacey hopes to give people opportunities to enjoy local pastimes and interact with others through the library’s resources.

“I think most people are pretty familiar with the library’s role in providing books and information,” said Stacey. “That tends to be our brand, but ‘there’s more to that story.’ We offer unique items that are relevant to community interests and kind of encourage some connection with our world.”

The Escanaba Public Library also offers technology services, including access to digital devices and internet hotspots, digital books and magazines, a video streaming service, and a private video conferencing room.

The library also has a full calendar of community events. Stacey says music events have become very popular, particularly the post-pandemic Live on the Lawn…at Lunch! summer music series.

“We bring in regional musicians and some food trucks and invite people down to enjoy some music on their lunch hour,” she said. “Last year, over 1,000 people took advantage of that opportunity. We have a full schedule for that this summer as well.”

For more information on events and resources available, visit the Escanaba Public Library in person at 400 Ludington Street, on Facebook, or at escanabalibrary.org.
