ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On March 15, Pregnancy Services of Delta County opened its new facility at 2501 First Avenue North.

Executive director Cindy Asher says since the building was formerly a credit union, renovations will be made to better serve clients.

“We have the whole teller window, which we’d like to renovate into a family resource room for our clients to shop for baby clothes and things that they need for their children,” said Asher.

The nonprofit has reached 43% of its $750,000 capital campaign goal to fund those renovations and pay off the mortgage.

The new building is four times the size of the old Pregnancy Services location on Ludington Street. According to client services and volunteer coordinator Jamie Fisher, the additional space will allow the center and its 45 volunteers to provide services that could not previously be offered.

“We will be offering ultrasound and STI and STD testing, and expanding our man-to-man mentoring, and cooking classes for families,” Fisher said.

All resources are provided free of charge. Clients can even earn points toward supplies they will need–such as diapers, strollers, and food–by taking educational classes.

Fisher says her goal is to provide a safe space for each client, no matter how they choose to proceed with their pregnancy.

“We are non-judgmental; we want to help you,” she said. “We want you to know all your information, and we want to walk beside you. That’s the important part, that you know that you are loved. We will embrace you.”

Pregnancy Services of Delta County will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on April 18 from 3:00 – 5:00. Visit the organization’s Facebook page for future updates.
