Trenary’s 30th annual Outhouse Classic

TRENARY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Competitors and spectators made their way to Trenary over the weekend for the annual Outhouse Races. Hitting its 30th year, these races continue to bring excitement and fun for everyone and a way to break up Yooper, long, winters.

For Millie and Teddy, they’ve been attending the races for most of their lives, and now they’ve decided to compete for the first time.

Millie standing between her brother and their outhouse said, “We have been coming for years.”

The racers are divided up into different age groups to keep everything on an even playing field, and by their ages are entered in the squeakers race. However when asked in all the excitement said.

Millie and Teddy started saying together, “We are in,” and

Millie continued for both of them and said, “the outhouse races and we are in the squirt races.”

When asked if they thought they would get first place?

Teddy said, “Second.”

Millie added, “Yeah,” then she giggled.

Keeping the tradition, a parade of teams and their homemade outhouses made their way to the beginning of the track.  This year, the ‘Turdieth Ever,’ had a record number of entries, with 27 teams ready to compete.  One by one each team competed for the best time in their bracket, and upon completion made their way to the awards table to claim their title.

Announcer calls out, “The winners of the Squeakers, with a time of 25 seconds, the Poo Pirates!” followed by cheering the two accept their award and then pose with their trophy.

After they received their award I asked how it felt to take 1st thinking they were going to get 2nd?

Millie answered, “It feels amazing!”

And, what were their plans to celebrate this victory?

She giggled and said, “We can have a toilet paper party.”

Teddy added, “No, we need to teepee the parents that is what we need to do!”

Although they had toilet paper, they chose to gather with their fans and watched the rest of the festivities, as you could hear the announcer over the speaker say, “If you have a fur hat,” And just like these races, the long-standing fur hat competition was also a success with quite the turnout of contenders.

Already looking forward to next year’s event, officials challenge spectators to take part and help them set
a record for the 31st year to have 31 entries, and help out the local businesses and Trenary community.
