ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A nationally renowned suicide prevention advocate is in town tonight and tomorrow to share his story with community members.
Kevin Hines was just 19 years old when he attempted suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in 2000.
He survived the attempt. and has spent the last two decades traveling the world spreading his suicide prevention message.
Hines gave a community member presentation earlier tonight at Ishpeming High School. He spoke with parents about signs to look out for and ways to help children who may be having suicidal thoughts. He stressed the importance of connecting with the kids he presents to and making sure they feel connected.
The presentation is very interactive, and Hine says it has left a lasting impact on those who have seen it. On Thursday, he spoke with students from Ishpeming, Westwood, and Negaunee high schools.
