The Yoopers United Team took on The Red Wings Alumni Team this weekend in a fundraiser for The United Way of Marquette County.
This weekend The United Way brought out hundreds of hockey fans to The Berry Events Center for its first hockey game of the season. The teams took the ice this weekend to raise some money for The United Way of Marquette County as their first fundraising event this fall, and with both teams coming out on top with a 7-7 tie for the night, what a way to kick it off.
The Yoopers United Team was made up of 22 local hockey players, ranging from NMU hockey alums to hockey fans just excited to play to support the united way. The community showed up to show their support as well, filling up the stadium to watch a good game for a good cause.
It’s important to raise money for the community. The United Way funds 28 partner agencies, everything is local, from housing and food security and youth programs to senior programs, and everything raised today at this game stays right in the community and goes to those programs.
This is just the beginning of The United Way’s campaign this year to raise funds to put back into the community to members who need it most.
