Karl Bohnak Joins WZMQ 19 News

by WZMQ
September 26, 2022
A A

Karl Bohnak is back on Marquette television. The popular meteorologist will join WZMQ 19 News in October.

“I will be contributing some stories about local history and weather, both past and future weather,” said Karl.

He is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and began his career in broadcasting over 40 years ago. He studied meteorology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison while working at the local CBS affiliate. Karl then worked at WTMJ TV in Milwaukee where he broadcast on both radio and television. He moved to the U.P. in 1988 and became the chief meteorologist at WLUC TV6 where he remained until September 2021.

As an author, Karl wrote and co-wrote three books—the award-winning So Cold a Sky, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Almanac and Sunburns to Snowstorms, a collaboration with photo historian Jack Deo. He is still writing and enjoying life in the beautiful Upper Peninsula with his wife Liz and their cat, Gracie.

“I’m excited to be back on television passing along stories of past weather events and current weather phenomena,” said Karl.

Karl’s segments “That’s What Karl Says” will be seen on 19 News each Wednesday at 6 p.m.

WZMQ’s Chief Operating Officer John Christianson welcomes Karl’s return.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Karl as part of the 19 News team,” said Christianson. “He has been missed on local television and brings a unique perspective about local weather to viewers in the U.P. His knowledge and experience here is unequaled and we are fortunate he is now part of the 19 News team.”

Karl’s reports will also be available on the CBS station’s website staging.wzmq19.com.
