Upper Peninsula Schools Awarded School Safety Grants

CLASSROOMS PREPARING FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

More than a dozen Upper Peninsula schools will receive a share of $10 million in state funding awarded to schools throughout Michigan to keep students safe in classrooms, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Tuesday.

The money comes from the Competitive School Safety Grant Program (CSSGP).

The grants can be used to purchase equipment and/or technology to improve the safety and security of school buildings, students and staff.

Here’s the list of recipients in the Upper Peninsula:

  • Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District – $50,000
  • Copper Island Academy – $35,000
  • Superior Central Schools – $34,238
  • Delta-Schoolcraft ISD – $37,613
  • Holy Name Catholic School / Holy Name High School and Chesterton Academy – $23,965
  • Gwinn Area Community Schools – $150,000
  • Houghton-Portage Township Schools – $25,238
  • Iron Mountain Public Schools – $250,000
  • Breitung Township Schools – $39,870
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell Elementary/High School – $62,238
  • Holy Spirit Central (Catholic) School – $24,000
  • Rapid River Public Schools – $28,284
  • Mid Peninsula School District – $40,000
  • Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools – $250,000
