WZMQ 19 is partnering with the League of Women Voters of Marquette County to stream a candidate forum Friday, June 28.
Six candidates are running for the House of Representatives District 109 seat in Michigan’s primary election on Aug. 6.
“We’ve had all six candidates invited and they’ve all expressed interest,” said Jo Foley, candidate forum coordinator. “You never know who is going to show up but we’re hoping they will all be there. Our state representative is one of the most important candidates. They affect our lives directly.”
Candidates will answer questions and address the audience. There will be no crosstalk between the candidates or rebuttals or personal comments. All the questions will come from citizens who live in the district.
WZMQ 19 will live stream the event on WZMQ19.com and through the WZMQ 19 news app. The entire stream will remain available after the forum until the election on the station’s digital platforms.
The mission of the League is about voting rights and voter education, according to Foley.
“What could be more educational than to see your candidates’ side by side, speaking to you live, answering questions that you’ve sent in, where you can compare them?,” said Foley.
The forum will be held June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Marquette Township Hall on Commerce Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
WZMQ 19’s partnership with the non-partisan League of Women Voters is provided to help bring views and positions of those running for elected office to voters in the Upper Peninsula.
