Huskies honor Volleyball Team

Meg Raabe named Most Valuable Player

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Meg Raabe was named the MVP of the Michigan Tech volleyball team after the 2024 season. Five other Huskies were honored in the annual team awards.

Meg Raabe was honored on the All-GLIAC First Team in 2024. The junior appeared in all 29 matches and 106 sets for the Huskies, tallying 390 kills and averaging 3.68 kills per set to rank fourth in the GLIAC. She hit .260 while also adding 112 digs, 38 blocks, 12 assists, and five aces. Raabe ranks sixth in kills per set in program history and 13th in career kills.

Kaycee Meiners and Riley Stichter were honored with the Scholastic Achievement award. Meiners was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention after she ranked fourth in the GLIAC in total blocks (109) and blocks per set (1.04). She played in all 29 matches and tallied 202 kills, averaging 1.92 per set. Meiners ranks sixth in program history in career blocks, seventh in blocks per set, and ninth in hitting percentage. Meiners graduated with a bachelor’s in exercise science while holding a 3.83 GPA. She plans to attend physical therapy school.

Riley Stichter held a 3.97 GPA and received a bachelor’s degree in human biology with minors in public health and pre-health professions. She will begin dental school in the fall. Stichter appeared in five matches in 2024 and registered a pair of kills with a dig and block.

Brynn Erickson received the Digger Award after tallying 305 digs, averaging 2.88 per set. The sophomore appeared in all 29 matches and 106 sets and hit double figures in digs 13 times while hitting the 20-dig mark twice. Erickson added 24 assists and 20 service aces.

Rachel Zurek was named the Most Improved Player after she was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. The sophomore played in all 29 matches and 106 sets and tallied 271 kills, averaging 2.56 kills per set while hitting .288. She also had 69 blocks and 45 digs. Zurek hit double figures 12 times and at least 15 kills in three matches.

Alayna Corwin received the Harold Meese Sportsmanship Award. As a team captain, the junior appeared in 20 matches as a libero/defensive specialist, tallying 40 digs and 12 assists.

The Huskies finished the 2024 season with a 17-12 overall record and a 10-7 mark in the GLIAC. They advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the eighth straight season.

After the season in December, Cindy Pindral was named the eighth head coach in program history. She returns to the Huskies after being an Assistant Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Volunteer Coach with the Huskies for seven seasons from 2016 to 2022.
