Bronze in 100 freestyle; Wildcats finish 13th
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NMU men’s swim and dive team wrapped up competition from the 2025 NCAA Championship.
As a team for the week, the ‘Cats finished 13th of 36 teams with their score of 132. Drury was crowned national champions with 525 points, followed by Tampa with 451 and McKendree with 349.
The ‘Cats laid claim to a podium finish and a pair of first team All-America honors in seperate events. Leo Nolles claimed bronze and a first team All-America honor in the 100 freestyle before anchoring the first team All-America earning 400 free relay team of LaCount, Fulconi, and Khmara.
Both Wyatt Dickman and Tobie Stiles finished 11th in their respective events, those being the 200 breaststroke and 1-meter diving, for a pair of second team All-America honors.
Prelims
The day started with the 100 free prelims, and NMU had a pair of athletes swim. Nolles swam in the seventh heat of the event, placing first in his heat and recording the second fastest overall prelim time of 42.97, earning him a spot in the finals.
William LaCount also competed in the prelims, swimming in the third heat. LaCount finished sixth in the heat and 45th overall with his time of 45.38, missing the cut to advance to the finals.
Dickman swam in the fourth heat of the 200 breaststroke prelims from lane six. Dickman finished fourth in his heat and 9th overall with his time of 1:57.39, missing the A finals by 0.19 seconds and earning the top spot in the consolation finals.
Stiles and Benaiah Schnurstein competed in the 1-meter diving. Stiles advanced to the consolation final with his score of 423.40, the 12th position heading into the afternoon. Schnurstein finished 17th with his score of 393.60.
Finals
The men opened the finals with the 100 freestyle, with Nolles gunning for a medal. Swimming in lane five, Nolles posted a time of 42.71 to claim a bronze medal to go along with a first team All-America honor, finishing just 0.29 seconds behind first and 0.12 seconds behind second.
Dickman swam in lane four of the consolation finals, posting a time of 1:57.07 to finish third in the heat and 11th overall for a second team All-America honor.
In the diving consolation finals, Stiles scored a 480.05 to finish third in the consolation heat and 11th overall for a second team All-America honor.
The week concluded with the 400 free relay. The team of William LaCount, Gabriel Fulconi, Daniel Khmara, and Nolles earned a first team All-America honor as they finished 8th with their time of 2:54.62.
