Four players in double figures
HAMMOND, Ind. – Sophomore guard Alyssa Wypych recorded the first double-double of her career with 19 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team to a 78-62 win at Purdue Northwest on Thursday evening.
Veteran guard Isabella Lenz added 18 points, nearing a double-double herself with nine rebounds and a team-leading six dimes and four steals. Kendall Standfest and Maja Kozlowska also reached double-digit scoring with 10 points, respectively.
Michigan Tech improves to 12-15 overall and 9-10 in the GLIAC, as Purdue Northwest falls to 6-21 overall and 3-16 in the GLIAC.
“Everyone stepped up, Alyssa had some great finishes, our posts played really well–everything we needed to go, everyone stepped up and defended well enough,” said Michigan Tech head coach Sam Clayton. “Alyssa with a double-double–she did everything and defended really well on their posts. Bella maybe didn’t shoot it as well as normal but had those six assists and still made everyone else better.”
The Huskies shot 55.6 percent in the opening stanza with a game-high 26 points in the first quarter. Wypych went to work early with seven first-quarter points to lead all scorers as freshman Kloe Zentkowski knocked down two 3-pointers to help put Michigan Tech ahead 26-10.

Despite being outscored in those two quarters by six points, Michigan Tech stayed ahead with seven points off the bench from Ella Mason and six points from Wypych, entering the final quarter up 54-44.
