NMU Women third after Day One of GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships

200 Freestyle Relay Team finishes second

HOLLAND, Mich. – The NMU women’s swim and dive team completed day one from the GLIAC Championships, sitting in third place after day one.

The ‘Cats accumulated 166 points after the first outing, trailing Grand Valley in first with 327 and Wayne State in second with 208.

The first round of events for the women saw the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter diving, and the 200 free relay to end the night. NMU posted three podium finishes on the evening.

The first podium came from Annika Geyer in the 1000 free, dropping 16 seconds off of her entry time with a final result of 10:06.15, earning a bronze medal and NCAA DII B cut. Teammate Annika Wright also earned a NCAA cut, finishing sixth at 10:10.89, 13 seconds faster than her entry time.

Kalina Ceglinski was the next wildcat to find the podium, finishing third in the 1-meter diving with her score of 415.00 to earn her team 16 points.

The women capped its evening off with another podium, this time a silver medal from the 200 free relay team of Mia Strazny, Elena Curti, Abigail Keen, and Becca Burrows.

Evie DeCarlo and Burrows both finished fourth and earned an NCAA DII B cut in the 200 IM and 50 free, respectively.

The ‘Cats now look ahead to Thuraday, featuring the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, and 400 medley relay. Prelims start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 5:30 p.m., both of which can be streamed on FloSwimming.
