Burns, Hansen, Wangen lead Huskies’ attack
Courtesy NMU – HOUGHTON, Mich. – The NMU women’s nordic ski team wrapped up cometition at the CCSA Conference Championships from the Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan with the 7.5k classic.
The trio of Bridget Burns, Greta Hansen, and Marie Wangen from Michigan Tech took spots one through three on the podium, using their home course to their advantage.
The first Wildcat across the line was Henriette Nilssen in fifth among confrence skiers with her time of 27:08.9. Directly behing Nilssen was teammate Jordan Parent insixth among conference athletes with her time of 27:13.3.
Also finishing back to back were Victoria Dybwad and Merle Richter, finishing eighth and ninth among conference skiers with times of 27:47.1 and 27:57.0, respectively.
Ella Niznik and Pearl Harvey finished 18th and 19th among CCSA athletes with times of 29:37.3 and 29:45.9, respectively. Rounding out the ‘Cats skiers was Lena Kjelstrup with her time of 31:30.9.
The ‘Cats now have its sights set on next weekend, when NMU hosts the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships. Taking place just about 30 minutes west of Marquette, the race will be held at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming, Michigan on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23. Next weekend features the same races as this weekend, with the 7.5k on Saturday and mass start 20k on Sunday.
