Gladstone’s Larson wins 400 meters
MANKATO, Minn. – Although just a small group of Wildcats from the Northern Michigan track & field team traveled this weekend, several of them impressed as they were competing against some of the top athletes in their events throughout the country.
NMU collected 61 team points highlighted by a win, two runner-ups, and two more third-place finishers.
The win came from senior Ahna Larson, who bested the field in the 400m. Larson and teammate Ciara Ostrenga would finish first and second. Larson ran a personal best time of 58.36 while Ostrenga immediately followed at 58.96.
In the 60m hurdles, Ellyse Wolfrath took third place with a time of 8.62. Her qualifying time of 8.59 improves her season-best NCAA mark, now ranking at 17th in the country.
In the 800m, Beverly Harper crossed at 2:16.86 for second place while Gianna Hoving wasn’t too far behind for third with a time of 2:18.69. Hoving would also collect a fourth place finish in the mile with a time of 5:03.87.
NMU collected a pair of fifth place finishes in the field. Katilin Smith hit a 3.53m mark in the pole vault while Alayna Vandegriff reached 10.83m in the triple jump.
In total, the Green and Gold saw 14 season-bests during the meet, with half of those being a career-best.
