Wildcats have 21 podium finishes
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – In the fifth annual W-C-W Tri-Meet featuring the Northern Michigan Wildcats, Saginaw Valley State Cardinals, and Wayne State Warriors, the NMU track & field team took home its second consecutive win, edging SVSU and WSU on Saturday.
The Wildcats collected 133 points, beating out WSU’s 120.5 and SVSU’s 85.5. Northern is the first team to win the event twice (No team score in 2021, SVSU in 2022, WSU in 2023, and NMU in 2024).
In total, Northern had 21 podium finishes, with seven of those garnering first-place honors.
Track Events
In the 60m hurdles, Ellyse Wolfrath took home the win with another NCAA provisional mark of 8.72 while Sofi Diop finished in 3rd at 9.07. Wolfrath added a third place finish in the 60m dash, finishing in a time of 7.87.
Beverly Harper was the top finisher in the 800m, taking to the race in a time of 2:16.22. Gianna Hoving bested the competition in the mile, winning with a time of 5:02.71. Lamar Gordon would take 4th in a time of 5:08.81.
The Wildcats took second and third in the longest race of the day, the 5000m. Dani VanLente earned the silver medal finish with a time of 18:37.57 while Celia Wallace placed third, crossing at 19:01.44.
In the 400m, Ciara Ostrenga finished in a time of 58.35 for second place. In the 300m, Ahna Larson placed 5th with a time of 40.79 while Beverly Harper immediately followed in 6th at 41.80.
Emma Sweeney placed 2nd in the 3000m with a time of 10:31.27. Following was Sophia Potter at 10:37.04 for 4th and Anya VanSweden at 10:42.46 for 5th.
In the final event of the day, the team of Ellyse Wolfrath, Ciara Ostrenga, Ahna Larson, Beverly Harper took 2nd with a time of 2:45.39.
Field Events
Kati Smith was victorious in the pole vault, the field’s first event of the day. Smith reached a mark of 3.60m. Emily Czeiszperger tied for 2nd reaching a height of 3.45m.
In the long jump, Crystal Walker took top honors with a distance of 5.36m while Sofi Diop followed closely behind at 5.32m to take second.
Teiolla Harvey added another win in the weight throw, reaching a distance of 15.11m. Alizabeth Little wasn’t far behind at 14.13m, taking third.
Alayna Vandegriff continued to dazzle in the triple jump, hitting a winning distance of 10.86m.
In the high jump, Grace Wolfe and Eva Zonca each reached 1.52m, tying for second place.
NMU placed 2-4 in the shot put. Teiolla Harvey took 2nd reaching a mark of 12.14m, Alizabeth Little followed with 11.88m, and Adelyn Sanders was right behind at 11.86m.

One of the biggest indoor meets of the season awaits the Green and Gold next week, as they’ll head to Minnesota State to take part in the Mankato Indoor Challenge from February 14-15.
