Six goals and one assist in December
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech freshman forward Logan Morrell has been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association’s Co-Men’s National Rookie of the Month for December, it was announced on Friday, along with Vermont’s Max Strand.
Morrell (Mesa, Ariz.) scored a CCHA-leading six goals and added one assist for seven points across six December games for the Huskies, producing a +6 rating. He had a three-game goal-scoring streak in which he found the back of the net five times between December 7-14 and totaled 14 shots on goal and two blocks for the month.
He notched at least one point in 4-of-6 games, including two multi-point efforts at Bemidji State on December 13 and 14. In the faceoff circle, he won 55-of-106 draws (51.9%).
Morrell is tied for the team lead with eight goals this season which ranks fifth amongst NCAA freshmen. He is fourth in the CCHA in faceoff winning percentage (.567).
Robert Morris’ Tanner Klimpke was tabbed HCA Men’s National Player of the Month for December, while Ohio State University freshman Kristoffer Eberly earned Men’s National Goaltender of the Month.
Morrell is the third CCHA player to earn national recognition this season, joining Goaltenders of the Month Alex Tracy (Minnesota State) and Josh Kotai (Augustana) in November and October, respectively.
