MTU has five players on All-GLIAC Volleyball Teams

Hayes, Raabe earn First Team spots

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Five Huskies from the Michigan Tech volleyball team were honored when the GLIAC announced its all-conference teams on Friday (Nov. 22). Tess Hayes and Meg Raabe were named to the All-GLIAC First Team, Paige Wagner and Rachel Zurek were honored on the All-GLIAC Second Team, and Kaycee Meiners was an Honorable Mention selection.
 
Setter Tess Hayes is an all-conference pick for the second straight season after being on the Second Team as a freshman. The Chicago native started every match (28) and played in every set (101) in her second season. She has tallied 1,068 assists and leads the GLIAC in assists per set (10.57). Hayes has three matches with at least 50 assists and tallied 40 assists 11 times along with 11 double-doubles. She has also tallied 263 digs, averaging 2.6 per set, 63 kills, 43 aces, and 26 blocks. Hayes was named the GLIAC Setter of the Week on Sept. 9 and Nov. 18 and was also named to the Midwest Regional Crossover All-Tournament Team.
 
Outside hitter Meg Raabe also went from the All-GLIAC Second Team last year to the First Team this year. The junior has appeared in all 28 matches and 101 sets, tallying 953 kills and averaging 3.74 kills per set to rank fourth in the GLIAC. The Omaha, Nebraska native has hit .267 while also adding 110 digs, 38 blocks, 12 assists, and five aces. Raabe twice had over 20 kills and hit double figures 24 times. She was named the MVP of season-opening Oredigger Classic.
 
Middle blocker Rachel Zurek was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team after being and honorable mention selection as a freshman. The sophomore from Highland, Michigan has played all 28 matches and 101 sets and tallied 262 kills, averaging 2.59 kills per set while hitting .295. She also has 65 blocks and 43 digs. Zurek hit double figures 12 times and at least 15 kills in three matches. She was named to the UP North All-Tournament Team after the second weekend of the season.
 
Middle blocker Paige Wagner earned a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team as a freshman. The Lakeville, Minnesota native ranks fourth in the GLIAC in hitting percentage (.354) and averaged 1.97 kills per set after tallying 185 on the season. She has played in 26 matches and 94 sets and leads the team with 23 solo blocks, ranking second overall with 68 blocks. She had double-digit kills seven times.
 
Middle blocker Kaycee Meiners earned all-conference honors for the second season in a row. The fifth-year player is fourth in the GLIAC in total blocks (105) and ranks fifth in blocks per set (1.05). Meiners, a native of DeForest, Wisconsin has played in all 28 matches and tallied 195 kills, averaging 1.95 kills per set. She also has 28 digs, seven assists, and six aces. Meiners had double digit kills three times and tallied 10 block assists in a win over Findlay (Oct. 19).
 
The Huskies are 17-11 overall and play at No. 1 Ferris State on Saturday at noon in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals.
