Block party in two road wins
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan senior middle blocker Meghan Meyer has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after the first week of conference play.
Meyer helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of road wins over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. The Ada, Michigan native recorded nine blocks over the weekend, including five solo. Meyer rejected six attacks against Parkside, a season-high and just one off of her career-best performance.
“Meghan has been working so hard on her blocking this year, and it is great to see her hard work pay off this weekend,” coach Mike Lozier said. “She really was a force at the net during both matches. I know the entire team is proud of Meghan for receiving this award.”
Meyer was also a stalwart on offense, reaching double-digit kills in both contests, with a season-high 14 kills against Purdue Northwest and a .643 attack percentage at Parkside, the second-best mark across the league over the weekend.
The Wildcats start a six-game conference homestand in Vandament Arena when they host Davenport on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m.
