NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Negaunee Public Schools announced on Monday morning that long-time varsity football coach Paul Jacobson will be inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame later this year.
Jacobson first took over the role of head coach in 2000 at age 30, after MHSFCA Hall of Fame member Dick Koski retired. Since then, he and his staff have accumulated 185 wins, reaching the MHSAA playoffs 20 times in 25 season. The team won the State Championship in 2000, and were runners up in 2022.
The school said that Jacobson has been a pillar of Negaunee athletics dating back to his playing days and Negaunee High School during the 1985 and 1986 seasons. He then played four years at Central Michigan University as an offensive lineman, earning All-Conference honors in the 1990 season.
He started his coaching career at Mount Pleasant High School after he graduated from CMU in 1992, where he was the assistant varsity coach for four years before receiving a teaching and coaching job in Negaunee.
Jacobson will be honored on June 21 in Troy, Michigan, as he will be inducted with 13 other current or former coaches from high schools throughout Michigan.
