WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the latest with the war with Iran, Secretary Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, said new sanctions are ready to go to block all potential sources of revenue for Iran. The Secretary is urging other nations to cut their economic ties to Iran or face economic pressure from the US.
The Secretary is calling the latest economic pressure campaign against Iran “Operation Economic Outcast”. He said the US will issue new secondary sanctions to block sources of revenue for Iran, which include trade related to shipping, oil, crypto, gold and aviation. The Treasury Department said they have mapped the networks, facilitators, and financial channels that Iran uses to smuggle oil, evade sanctions, and fund terror.
Iran has already dealt with economic pressure from the US for decades, but Secretary Bessent said they are tightening the economic noose around Iran and warns other countries who are financially helping Iran.
“Any entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran, will be removed from the U.S. dollar system,” Sec. Bessent said. “The clock just started ticking.”
It’s been nearly six months since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran. Economic experts said the war has driven up energy and grocery costs here at home. Recent polls have shown that the war has become increasingly unpopular among Americans.
