ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Due to the projected snow accumulation between Friday and Monday, the Escanaba Department of Public Works has rescheduled Monday’s garbage collection.
The pickup schedule for March 16–March 20 has been adjusted as follows:
- Monday: No Garbage Collection
- Tuesday: Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes
- Wednesday: Recycling (1st and 3rd Week)
- Thursday: Thursday’s route
- Friday: Friday’s route
A press release from the department states that the City is responsible for plowing approximately 82 miles of roads and 15 miles of bike paths. The highest priority is keeping major streets open and passable for emergency services and essential travel. As a result, residential streets, local roads, and alleys are not cleared until major streets have been completed. Bike paths are plowed only after all roadways and alleys are accessible and safe. Winter parking regulations remain in effect and must be followed to ensure the safety of plow truck drivers, emergency personnel, and the citizens of Escanaba.
Citizens are reminded that it is illegal and unsafe to push snow across streets, avenues, or into the center lanes of Ludington Street, Stephenson Avenue, or other major roadways. Public Works asks motorists to park off of the roadway, as well as to avoid parking or placing garbage and recycling carts directly in front of driveways. When movable objects are placed in or along the roadway, it slows plowing operations and may prevent streets from being fully cleared.
