NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Michigan State Police have arrested two men and a teenager in connection with an alleged attempt to smuggle drugs into the Newberry Correctional Facility. The arrests followed an incident on February 28.
The investigation began when officers stopped a suspicious vehicle near the prison. Shortly after, a package was discovered in the prison yard containing methamphetamine and THC wax. This led to the arrests of three individuals.
The suspects include two men from Kalamazoo: 27-year-old Trayvonte Brown and 32-year-old Daquarius Turner. Both men have been charged with drug delivery, bringing contraband into a prison, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They are currently being held on $10,000 bond each and are scheduled to appear in court on March 12.
A 16-year-old from Battle Creek was also arrested on similar charges. Due to his age, authorities have not released his name.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including Michigan State Police, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and local law enforcement.
