ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The executive director of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce has been recognized for her dedication to the U.P. State Fair.

Over the weekend, the Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions (MAFE) held its annual convention downstate.

“The purpose of the MAFE convention is to bring together about 2,000 people representing members to share best practices and strategies for the upcoming year,” explained Delta County Chamber Executive Director Vickie Micheau. “This was the 141st convention, and it continues to be a major networking event.”

Micheau was one of several individuals recognized for their work at the convention. She was inducted into the Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions Hall of Fame, the association’s most prestigious honor. The MAFE Hall of Fame celebrates those who have had a significant influence on their local or state fairs for at least 20 years.

“There are so many people that have received this award before I received it,” Micheau said. “I absolutely admire them and respect the work that they have done for this industry, so it was very, very humbling to receive the award.”

Micheau was first appointed to Michigan’s Fair Board of Managers in 1999. In 2025, she served as president of the MAFE Board of Directors. She currently acts as the zone representative for the Upper Peninsula.

Under Micheau’s leadership at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, the U.P. State Fair has enjoyed much growth and development. She says it has all been possible thanks to her colleagues, fair volunteers, and community members.

“The award sits on my desk, but it’s really for the hundreds of people that support the Upper Peninsula State Fair and the thousands of fairgoers who cross through the turnstiles every year,” she said.

Planning is already underway for the 2026 U.P. State Fair, which is scheduled for August 17 – 23.
