ROCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Delta County educator has ended his campaign for State Senate and has launched a new campaign for the Michigan House of Representatives.

A former Marquette County Jail sergeant, Republican Chris Reynolds is currently a teacher and coach at Mid Peninsula Schools. He announced in August of 2025 that he would be running for the 38th District State Senate seat, which will become available later this year when sitting Senator Ed McBroom’s term ends.

Now, Reynolds is on a campaign for another State position–Michigan’s 108th District seat in the House of Representatives. That seat is currently held by Republican Representative Dave Prestin, who is running for State Senate in 2026.

In a written statement, Reynolds says the decision to run for the Michigan House was made after careful consideration, as well as conversations with community members.

“This decision did not come lightly,” he said. “Over the past several weeks, I have been approached by numerous residents and local leaders who shared their hopes and beliefs that my voice and experience would best serve our communities at the House level. Their encouragement and the thoughtful discussions that followed played a significant role in guiding my decision.”

Reynolds believes he would be “most effective” as a representative for Upper Peninsula voters, rather than as a senator.

“My commitment remains the same: to listen, to serve with integrity, and to put our communities above politics,” Reynolds stated. “I am grateful for the continued support, prayers, and trust placed in me. I look forward to the campaign ahead and to working together for a strong future for District 108.”
