ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Amid the winter storm hitting the U.P. this week, the Escanaba Department of Public Works is urging citizens to stay off the roads while crews work to clear them of snow.
The department states in a press release that crews are working “around the clock” to clear roadways. However, the severity of the storm has made it challenging to keep up. As the highest priority is to keep major streets open and passable for emergency services and essential travel, it is taking crews additional time to clear residential streets, local roads, and alleys.
Bike paths will not be plowed until all primary roadways and alleys are safely accessible. Residents are asked not to push snow across the street or into the center lanes of Ludington Street or Stephenson Avenue for safety and legal reasons.
Citizens are asked to avoid traveling except when necessary or in cases of emergency. Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 911.
Public Works thanks residents for their patience as crews work in challenging weather conditions. Those with questions can contact the department at (906) 786-1842 or kdubord@escanaba.org.
