ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, Maxwell Bryan Lundquist of Grand Marais was arraigned on a single count of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, 24 counts of surveilling and unclothed person, and 25 counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
The charges against Lundquist arose after he was being investigated for a probation violation by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Pursuant to that investigation, numerous electronic devices were seized from the defendant.
After examination of the devices, various images and videos were discovered, including an alleged video of child sexually abusive activity. Numerous other images and videos that appear to be of local residents taken through the windows of their private homes were also discovered, along with recordings of individuals using public bathrooms.
The primary count of the complaint carries a maximum penalty of 25 years. Further, the various computer crimes carry the potential for consecutive sentencing to their respective underlying offenses. The defendant is also charged as a habitual offender, which increases the maximum penalty to life in the State’s prison on all counts.
“These types of crimes are reprehensible and the impact they have had on the Grand Marais community is unfathomable,” said Robert Steinhoff, Alger County Prosecutor. “My office will work diligently to achieve conviction for the protection of the citizens in Grand Marais, both now and into the future.”
The defendant is currently being held at the Alger County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled for a probable cause conference on December 29, followed by a preliminary examination on January 5.
