ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba’s Players de Noc theatre group is gearing up for its annual Christmas production.
This year, the Players will put on two holiday plays back-to-back. The first play is The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off by Rick Hip-Flores.
“It’s kind of set like one of the baking shows that you see on TV,” said Players de Noc member Karin Beveridge. “It’s all based on baking the best Christmas cookie ever.”
The second play is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, based on a novel of the same name by Barbara Robinson. It follows the Herdman children–who director Beveridge describes as the ‘bullies’ of the community—as they volunteer to be in the local Christmas pageant. One of the mothers takes on the difficult task of putting on a great show.
The double feature calls for a large cast, including many young actors who are eager to bring both of the stories to life.
“We have 24 kids in our show with about ten adults; the other show has seven kids and eight adults,” Beveridge said. “Kudos to the parents who let us borrow their children and put in the time for this. Both of the shows that we’re doing will uplift you and put you in the Christmas spirit.”
The Players de Noc Christmas production will take place at the Bay College Besse Theater. The double feature is scheduled for December 5 – 6 and 11 – 13 at 7:30 p.m., along with a matinee performance at 1:30 p.m. on December 7.
Tickets are available now at the Bonifas Arts Center and at playersdenoc.org.
