MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Into the holiday season, Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service (MARESA) is assisting in the search for any means of support by local families in need.
As the recent government shutdown brought a pause in snap benefits that has since resumed, holiday expenses including gifts, food, and utilities, are still a struggle for many. The U.P. Wellness Task Force, organized by Marquette-Alger RESA, made it a priority this quarter to highlight local support options for these families during this time.
Their new ‘Resource Hub’ offers links to apply for benefits, find dates and times for food distributions and toy drives, and more.
“With the concerns around SNAP benefits being cut, this was brought to the forefront as something that needed to be addressed immediately,” said Kelly Sager, the student wellness coordinator at Marquette-Alger RESA. “An action plan came from that, and part of that action plan was the Resource Hub. It includes pretty much everything a family could possibly want to know about receiving assistance in the area.”
The resource hub can be accessed here.
