ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This winter, a local nonprofit is connecting people who need help clearing snow from their property with good Samaritans.
Kindness Rocks U.P. recently launched the Snow Angel project, inspired by a similar program called Do Good Wisconsin. People who cannot shovel snow from their driveway or sidewalk can add their address to a virtual list. They will receive a Snow Angel sign to display in their yard. Then, volunteers will do the work for them.
“Once a property has been cleared, you scan the QR code that will be on each sign,” said Kindness Rocks U.P. Founder and President Cris Moore-Lucier. “It helps us track when a yard’s been cleaned.”
Snow Angel property owners are not required to pay for the service. However, they can tip their Snow Angel if they wish to do so. Snow Angels get to keep 100% of any tips they receive. As a token of appreciation, Kindness Rocks U.P. will also give volunteers gift cards for local businesses.
“We’re living in such a challenging time with the things that are going on and how people are interacting with each other,” Moore-Lucier said. “There are so many elderly people that need help. I want everybody to be able to experience that one moment where somebody takes the time out to notice somebody and just to be kind to them.”
The kindness will continue during warm weather months as the Lawn Angel project.
