Bartoszkiewicz makes 28 saves for Huskies

CANTON, NY – Michigan Tech shutout St. Lawrence 3-0 on Saturday at Appleton Arena. Isaac Gordon, Max Koskipirtti, and Kalem Parker scored the goals, and Owen Bartoszkiewicz earned the shutout with 28 saves.

“I’m super proud of the bounce back tonight,” Tech coach Bill Muckalt said.
“We challenged our team today, and they responded with a commitment to team defense. Our penalty kill was great, and you could just feel the urgency within the group. We weren’t going to be denied tonight.”

Isaac Gordon opened scoring with his second of the season only 4:06 into the game. Teydon Trembecky carried the puck across the zone and sent a centering feed to Gordon. Rylan Brown also assisted on Gordon’s 27th career goal.

The teams went scoreless for the next 47 minutes before Max Koskipirtti added to the lead 12:14 into the third period when he jammed in a centering feed from Stiven Sardarian. Tyler Miller had the second assist on Koskipirtti’s fourth goal of the season and the 15th of his career.

The Skating Saints pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, and Kalem Parker flipped a puck from the defensive zone and into the empty net for the final tally with 25 seconds left in the game. It was Parker’s second goal of the season. Max Koskipirtti was credited with an assist.

Owen Bartoszkiewicz made five saves in the first period and 12 in each of the final two periods for his first shutout as a Husky and the third of his collegiate career. He is now 5-2-0 on the season and has 16 NCAA wins.

For the second time this season, the Huskies went without a power play. They were perfect on the penalty kill, going 4-for-4.

The Huskies won over 59 percent of their faceoffs with all four centermen winning at least eight draws.

Tech is 5-3 overall and gets back to CCHA play next weekend against rival Northern Michigan. The two teams will meet in Houghton on Friday and Marquette on Saturday. Select seats are still available for Friday’s game, with general admission tickets also on sale.
