Michigan Tech drops two at Volleyball Crossover

Indianapolis, Ohio Dominican earn victories

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Friday to begin the 17th annual Midwest Region Crossover. The Huskies fell 3-0 to Indianapolis in the early match and went five sets against Ohio Dominican in the late match.
 
“We played two quality opponents today and fought really hard in the late match,” Tech coach Cindy Pindral said. “We continue to rotate in a lot of players, and I’m excited for another chance to compete on Saturday.”

Tech is playing as the GLIAC No. 5 seed and opened against the GLVC’s No. 4 seed, Indianapolis. The Greyhounds won their seventh straight match after defeating the Huskies 25-14, 25-13, and 25-18.
 
Rachel Zurek led Tech with nine kills. Tricia Kennedy added five kills, while Paige Wagner and Madelyn Torola combined for eight. Tess Hayes set the offense with 15 assists, and Julia Fledderjohn led with 13 digs.
 

Ohio Dominican 3, Michigan Tech 2

 
ODU is the No. 2 seed out of the GMAC and extended its winning streak to eight straight after the five-setter, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 23-25, and 15-7.
 
The match took just over two hours and had 32 ties and 14 lead changes. Tech had three different players with double-digit kills. Rachel Zurek led with 13 kills, while Madelyn Torola and Jacqueline Yancy added 10 each. Avery Brown tallied a Michigan Tech-best 24 assists, and Madelynn Kreider added 16 assists. Julia Fledderjohn finished with 23 digs, hitting the 20-dig mark for the fourth time this season.
 
The Huskies wrap up the Crossover on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern against Walsh. The Cavaliers dropped a pair of 3-1 matches on Friday to Lewis and Ferris State.
