ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Escanaba is getting a jumpstart on Halloween this weekend.
The Escanaba DDA will host its third annual Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 19. The event will take place at the Center Court, located at 11th and Ludington Streets.
More than 40 local businesses and individuals are decorating their trunks for the event. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite trunks while they trick-or-treat, and the winning trunks will receive cash prizes.
The Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat is a partnership with the Delta County chapter of the Teal Pumpkin Project, which makes Halloween less scary for kids with food allergies and other dietary restrictions. In addition to candy, all trunks will offer non-food items like spider rings, sticker sheets, and bubbles. Some will have interactive games for children to enjoy as well.
“Having this event for those children makes a big impact on them and their families,” said event coordinator Samantha Gaudino, whose son has a food allergy. “It’s finally a safe place for them to trick-or-treat. Most parents are really surprised that the kids will gravitate towards the non-food items more than the candy, so it’s really all-inclusive for everybody.”
There are still a few slots available, and anyone interested in decorating a trunk and passing out treats can sign up until Friday. To do so, visit escanabadowntown.com/trunk.
