ROCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – As Senator Ed McBroom’s second term comes to a close in 2026, Chris Reynolds, a Republican from Rock, plans to campaign for his seat in the 38th District.
Reynolds served as Sergeant in the Marquette County Jail for 10 years, now teaching social studies, coaching football, and running the Youth in Government program at Mid Peninsula Schools.
In running, Reynolds says he plans to take interests from not just one side, but from everyone, hoping to make a difference across the board, with a heavy focus on education, and improving the workforce in Michigan’s prison systems.
“Prior to working in the school, even with my kids already attending, I see how financially tough it is on our schools right now, something has to change,” Reynolds told WZMQ 19.
“Watch what’s happening to our corrections officers right now, there’s something has to be done at a much deeper level than what is being done to ensure that our officers are able to do their job and stay safe,” he said.
Reynolds and his family of five reside on generational farmland. With this, he says this rural perspective is an important part of bringing the U.P.’s voice to the table.
“I’m not a career politician, I’m living it. I’ve lived through what so many are living through, and people are frustrated,” he said. “I want to go out there and meet those individuals to see what we can do together to make things better.”
Reynolds will be on the ballot for District 38 alongside fellow Yoopers, including Delta County Commissioner, Kelli van Ginhoven.
