ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A trial date has finally been set for the Delta County man accused of murdering a pregnant woman more than two years ago.
On July 8, 2023, the body of 22-year-old Harley Corwin was found in the woods of Ford River Township. Tavaris Lee Jackson, then age 32, was arrested and arraigned on an open murder charge. A judge found probable cause for that charge, as well as felony possession of a firearm at the time of the murder and assault intentionally causing the death of a fetus.
The Attorney General’s Office took over the prosecution of the case in November of 2023. The trial has been delayed several times since then, primarily due to appeals filed by Jackson.
On August 14, 2025, Jackson appeared before a Delta County Circuit Court judge via Zoom from the Delta County Jail for a pretrial hearing. Based on the recommendations of the prosecution and the defense, the court decided to set aside three weeks for the trial, which is scheduled to begin on March 2, 2026.
WZMQ 19 plans to cover the trial and will provide any further updates made in this case.
