MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Marquette County child care provider has been ordered to shut down after a state investigation uncovered multiple violations of child care regulations.
The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) announced that it has summarily suspended the license of Andrea Richard, who operated a group child care home at 371 West Wright Place in Marquette. The suspension took effect at 6:00 p.m. on July 16, 2025.
According to the department’s Child Care Licensing Bureau, an investigation concluded on July 15 found Richard failed to meet several legal and safety requirements. Violations included failure to properly supervise children, failure to ensure their welfare, and failure to know the location of children at all times.
The summary suspension prohibits Richard from operating a group child care home at her current address or any other location. She is also required to notify parents that her license has been suspended and that she is no longer allowed to provide care.
State officials say the action was necessary to protect the health and safety of the children in her care.
WZMQ will continue to follow this developing story.
