HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – Next week, a local school is doing its part to keep electronic waste out of landfills.

On Saturday, June 28, Bark River-Harris Schools will be collecting e-waste from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern. The collection will take place in the back parking lot, located at W471 US Highway 2, US-41.

For a fee of $5 per car, the public can drop off unwanted items including keyboards, monitors, routers, DVD players, phones, tablets, gaming consoles, desktop fax machines, and printers. Household items like coffee makers, microwaves, vacuums, lamps, batteries, and air conditioners will not be accepted.

The collection is a partnership between the school district, EGLE, the Superior Watershed Partnership, and the Hannahville Indian Community.

“It was a great opportunity last year that kind of popped up out of nowhere, and we’re excited that we were given the opportunity to do it a second year in a row,” said Bark River-Harris Superintendent Jeremy Pach. “We recently had a cleanup in our township; this will give people that missed that an opportunity to bring their items. We’re actually looking to see if maybe we can do it multiple times a year because our communities are able to handle that.”

Businesses interested in dropping off items can obtain a price list upon request. Questions can be directed to kathleen@superiorwatersheds.org.

Global Make Music Day comes to Escanaba June 21

June 20, 2025
Imagine never having to pay property taxes again. The proposal would eliminate property taxes statewide, allowing homeowners and businesses to own their land without any ongoing government fees. But with property taxes funding everything from schools to public safety to roads, the big question is—where will that money come from? The plan calls for a bigger slice of state sales tax to be redirected to local governments. To help cover the gap, the petition also shifts 10% of state income, marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco tax revenue to cities and counties. sot Opponents OF THE PLAN worry it could jeopardize local funding. The petition is now gathering signatures for a spot on the 2026 ballot.
