ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County is one step closer to hiring its next administrator.
Current Administrator Ashleigh Young is stepping down from her role to take over management of the County Airport. The Board of Commissioners selected Emily DeSalvo as Young’s replacement last week.
DeSalvo formerly held the title until 2023, when a previous makeup of the board voted to fire her. The three commissioners in favor of her firing were recalled by voters months later.
On Tuesday, the County Board approved a draft of DeSalvo’s new contract, which includes a salary of $93,000 and two merit-based increases of up to $3,000 after six and twelve months. If DeSalvo is fired by this board, the contract prohibits her from being hired for another advisory role within the County for three years unless she pays back her severance package.
Two commissioners were chosen to negotiate the terms with DeSalvo.
