MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, the City of Marquette honored the Superior Watershed Partnership with a proclamation for 25 strong years of assistance to the region.
Since its creation, the partnership has become a nationally recognized leader in innovation and environmental programs. Their overall duty to protect the Great Lakes has been paved along by acquiring millions of dollars in grant funding from the city of Marquette and and the state of Michigan.
“Just being acknowledged for the work that we do in this community, protecting the Great Lakes, assisting communities and helping people is our mission,” said Tyler Penrod, a program manager for the SWP. “And that overlaps quite a bit with work that the city does, so we’re grateful to be partnered with them over the last 25 years.”
A celebration event is being held at the Lake Superior Theater and Boathouse on June 20 at 6 p.m., tickets are $25.
