Power of 10 Foundation to hold fundraiser in Manistique

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Schoolcraft County nonprofit is raising money to help people facing chronic and terminal illnesses and disabilities.

Founded about seven years ago in Minnesota, the Power of 10 Foundation creates care packages for patients around the world. The foundation has since expanded to Manistique, where volunteers select a unique combination of items for each applicant.

“We have sent out just under 10,000 care packages, and we’ve done 21 countries so far,” said Sarahjean Adolphus, Founder and Executive Director of the Power of 10 Foundation.

On May 30, the foundation is hosting a fundraiser at The Mill. The event will feature a silent auction, a DJ, drinks, all-you-can-eat pizza, and some surprises.

The Power of 10 Foundation aims to raise $5,000. Adolphus says that money will help volunteers continue delivering smiles to those who need them.

“We just want others to know what we do and what’s changing about their community, and that is now that there’s a nonprofit helping the chronically ill, terminally ill, and disabled—not only in their own community but all over the world,” Adolphus said. “We just feel like maybe this is something that they haven’t seen before and that you’d want to support.”

The community’s support is especially appreciated right now. At the foundation’s former location, care package items were stored in sheds, which collapsed during a recent snowfall. Approximately 25% of the nonprofit’s supplies were lost. Adolphus moved the operation to a location in town a few months ago, and she says things are looking up.

“Thankfully, the person who owns this property has donated the space to us,” said Adolphus. “We work so hard to give back to the community, and we think that others always want to give back.”

Tickets for the Power of 10 Foundation fundraiser are available now for $20 at The Mill, which is located at 216 South Cedar Street. Tickets will be $25 at the door on May 30. The fundraiser will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring new or homemade items for care packages.
