HANCOCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – Houghton County through the Keweenaw Peninsula provide some of the most beautiful scenes in northern Michigan, making it a popular travel destination.
To celebrate some of these key landmarks, Visit Keweenaw has recently launched their “Voter’s Choice Awards” for community members and visitors to vote on their favorite stops.
“In the past couple of years, Mount Bohemia has been voted #1 in ski destinations in North America,” said Jesse Wiederhold, the public relations and events coordinator for Visit Keweenaw. “We wanted to recognize more of our places, so what we’ve done is curated 15 categories of best nature hikes, best pasties, best lunch spot, things like this, for folks to start voting in.”
Winners will be announced later in the month, receiving a window decal to dispay their favoritism across the community.
“What we really hope is that the locals will have a lot of opinions, but as well as our visitors,” said Wiederhold. “We want to give them the local stamp of approval.”
Although some of the locations may have a bigger footprint than others, Visit Keweenaw’s main focus is to give these destinations the recognition they deserve.
“These are very niche experiences, so really big representation from the big and small places,” said Wiederhold. “All the way from Copper Harbor down to Twin Lakes.”
Voting can be found on visitkeweenaw.com through May 13 at 11:59 p.m.
