MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – As part of Northern Michigan University’s Anderton’s Earth Week, Queen City Running Company is expanding their shoe drive to the university. Through Sunday, April 27th, donation boxes will be available at the Superior Dome, the NMU PEIF, or Queen City Running Co’s Marquette location.
Lightly used shoes will be accepted to reduce waste in the area, and to give them a second life. The shoes are recycled through Sneakers4Good, who aim to redistribute shoes and reduce landfill waste.
“It’s not just this week, but this week we’re stressing it,” said Matt Johnson, Queen City Running Co’s assistant manager. “All year round, if you do have shoes that need to be recycled, as long as they don’t have any holes or any big issues with them, bring them on down. It’s good for us, it’s good for the community.”
Outside of this week, Queen City Running Company accepts shoe donations year round. Proceeds from this week’s donations will go to the Superior Watershed Partnership.
