ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Delta County Airport continues its search for new leadership about two months after its previous manager stepped down.
Earlier this month, the airport’s top candidate for the job withdrew her application for personal reasons. Now, a second candidate has turned down the position.
On Monday, the Airport Advisory Board discussed its next steps. According to County Commissioner Kelli Van Ginhoven, the airport’s third choice of candidate does not have the required educational background. County Administrator Ashleigh Young confirmed that more applications have come in.
The Airport Advisory Board is considering working with a hiring firm to find an interim manager, which would cost between $21,000 and $33,000 per month. The airport has $92,000 in grant funding that can go toward that cost. If a new manager is chosen before then, the firm could also provide training services.
The airport’s manager license was previously set to expire on April 17. However, Young has since passed a management certification test. She will continue to act as a temporary manager in the meantime.
