MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The U.P. State Fair has appointed four new members to its authority board. This board is responsible for the coordination of services offered by the U.P. State Fair.
15 Upper Peninsula counties along with the Hannahville Tribe have represented positions of the U.P. State Fair Board of Authority since it was established in 2010, after state funding was ceased for the fair. Newly appointed members include Delta County Commissioner Matt Jensen, Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma, Baraga County Commissioner Craig Kent, and Mackinac County Commissioner John Kling.
Linda Talsma says that she plans to bring her years of experience with the Marquette County Fair to benefit the traditions of the U.P. State Fair.
“It’s run very well and very successfully, everybody plays such important roles when they take their jobs; keep in mind most of these jobs are volunteer positions,” said Talsma. “It’s just another way to help your community out, and I’m hoping that I become a good asset to the fair.”
This years U.P. State Fair will be held on August 11 through 17, at the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.
