ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – One individual in possession of drug paraphernalia has been arrested after fleeing police near a school.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, an Escanaba Public Safety officer attempted to apprehend an individual with a felony warrant during a traffic stop. The individual fled at a high rate of speed near the Escanaba High School as students were being released. Due to the high speed and large number of pedestrians in the area, officers discontinued their pursuit in the interest of public safety.
Shortly afterward, a concerned citizen reported a suspicious individual walking near a vehicle matching the description of the fleeing suspect’s car. Officers responded to the area, located the suspect, and took them into custody without further incident.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered approximately 11 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia consistent with the sale of narcotics. The suspect was arrested and lodged at the Delta County Jail on multiple charges.
Escanaba Public Safety extends its gratitude to the community members who provided crucial information that led to the suspect’s arrest. Officials say the incident highlights the importance of law enforcement and the public working together to keep the community safe.
