MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Starting this summer, the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority (MCSWMA) will be collecting very small amounts of hazardous waste from small businesses and residents of the surrounding communities.
Materials such as paint thinners, oil based paints, and pesticides will be accepted for the Very Small Quantity Generators. VSQGs produce no more than 220.46 pounds of hazardous waste per month or no more than 2.20 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month.
The MCSWMA will gather and ship out the hazardous waste two times a year, as they can only hold it for 30 days on site. “We ship out on July 1 and November 1,” said MCSWMA Director of Operations, Mike Stannard. “We collect from businesses during the month of June and the month of October to meet the 30 day regulation.”
