ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – With all the ice left behind by the recent snow, it can be easy to slip and fall. A free event in Escanaba aims to teach attendees how to prevent injuries that often come with an improper landing.
On Tuesday, February 18, Fyzical Therapy & Balance Center will host a FOOSH Workshop at the Anytime Fitness purple turf.
“FOOSH is ‘falling on an outstretched hand,'” explained physical therapist Dr. Jarett Sadler. “At this time of year, sometimes [it is] unavoidable.”
Dr. Sadler will discuss the impact of landing on an open hand on various parts of the body, how those injuries are treated in therapy, and ways to prevent fall injuries.
“Fractures, those can potentially lead to hospital stays, and then a hospital stay could lead to some pneumonia or something along those lines,” Dr. Sadler said. “You can stop it ahead of time by increasing some balance or even thinking about your environment and the scenarios in which you find yourself.”
The Fyzical FOOSH Workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m., and Anytime Fitness is located at 322 North Lincoln Road. Refreshments will be provided by Buried Stone Farms.
