MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – After a two-year break, courtesy of Mother Nature, the UP200 is back.
As the first mushers lined up for their 228-mile journey through the wilderness, thousands of spectators lined Washington Street to see these canine athletes in action. After a flawless start for the UP200, the much shorter midnight run began with the same enthusiastic applause. Marquette Mayor Jessica Hanley spoke on behalf of the city, thanking all of those involved.
“We know that Mother Nature has been less than kind to us with snow for the last two years, but this year she seems to be making up for it quite well,” said Hanley.
Stay tuned for our continuing coverage of all the races, and, of course, all the action at the finish line.
