GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Friday, Jan. 17, a casual getaway among friends turned into a horrible tragedy when a car driven by 21-year-old Luke Kostriva of Negaunee collided head-on with a car driven by 37-year-old Gwinn resident and firefighter Jacob Harrelson. Injured in the crash were Tony Krepps, Adam Johnson, and Trevor Koenig, all freshmen at Gwinn area High School. Assistant Principal Rob Soyring knew the three boys and said the outpouring of support from the community was amazing.

“The amount of teamwork in trying times that this community rallies around is unbelievable,” said Soyring.

Soyring pointed to all the fundraising efforts that materialized almost at once when word of the crash came out

“Very quickly, people stepped up and offered their help and wanted to give their help. So you want to provide opportunities like that for people. It’s positive human nature,” explained Soyring.

He was very happy to announce that as of yesterday, all three boys were home from the hospital. Soyring, speaking on behalf of all the families involved. Wishes to thank everyone.

“They wanted to make sure that if and when I had the chance to speak on their behalf to everybody, anybody, they wanted to pass along such a heartfelt thank you because instantly they were being given offers of help,” said Soyring.

There are several GoFundMe pages set up to assist the families. The outpouring of donations is significant.
