KINCHELOE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Lower Michigan woman appeared in court this week for charges of smuggling drugs and communication items into the Chippewa Correctional Facility.
On Jan. 11, Michigan Department of Corrections personnel at the Chippewa Correctional Facility became suspicious after noticing unusual behavior by a prisoner during a visitation. After reviewing surveillance, it was discovered that 41-year-old Frances Ramirez-Huerta, of Redford, had smuggled items into the facility. Surveillance video revealed she concealed items in the waistband of her pants, which were covertly given to the prison during the visit.
A subsequent search of the prisoner led to the discovery of two bundles of contraband: the first contained 140 suboxone strips, the second contained seven grams of marijuana flower in packaging and two SIM cards for cellular devices.
